Module 4 Ettiquette Exercise 2

I took the Disability Awareness quiz and got everything correct on the language part. Under the Personal and Professional Interactions section, I got the second multiple choice question wrong. The only reason was I doubted my initial choice. "When meeting someone who is deaf and accompanied b and interpreter, you should:" I chose "A. Maintain eye contact with the person who is deaf" at first, but then I thought that I was being disrespectful to the interpreter by not acknowledging him/her so I changed it to "C. Look back and forth between them." Turns out that I was correct with my first answer. I should learn to trust my instincts more. I did pretty good with the Employment Myths and Facts. I should have realized that all statements would most likely be false, but I got stumped on two statements. Actually, they were sort of tricky statements. Statement D: "All people who are blind can read Braille." I should have read it more closely. I made the assumption that Braille was learned by all blind persons. That was a bit naive on my part. Statement J: "Employing and managing employees with disabilities requires unique skills." I read the statement in a different way. I don't really know what I was thinking.

  2. When I read the statement about requiring unique skills when managing employees with disabilities, I was thinking about skills communication skills like sign language. That statement was a little vague about the word "skills." Some things that may be skills are more like traits such as patience. I do think that manager need to have training on working with people with disabilities.
